The art of thrifting has become a common art amongst fashion bloggers. Whether it is looking for mom jeans to craft into shorts, or one of a kind pieces...thrifting has become a staple activity and these Jobless Betches are thrift shopping addicts. Our shoes are both products of consignment shopping, both found new, both found for bargain prices. The sandals Petersen A is wearing are brand new, from Bloomingdales but were $10 at a Junior League Consignment Store. It's all the luck of the thrift. Knowing the days that thrift stores restock merchandise is an important angle -- knowing when new items will be untouched, not looked over. However, thrift stores can take some time to replenish their inventory in a substantial amount. So when thrift stores are at bay the Jobless Betches play at the outlets. Outlet stores such as Saks Off Fifth and Nordstrom Rack are a best kept secret of ours. Not only are the prices right but the inventory is all actually overflow from Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom -- they aren't filled with lesser quality clothes manufactured for outlet stores only. We both found our pursues in outlet stores. Both quality pursues that could still be found in an actual Saks-Marc by Marc Jacobs section and Brahmin's online store -- for full price mind you. 

The moral of the story is thrift stores and outlets can actually provide staple items for less.

Looks for less seem to be all the rage in this economy and these Jobless Betches are all about it. Sure, we love finding fabulous clothes on sale but even those "deals" can break the bank. When we aren't in the mood for overspending we hop over to our go to stores to find chic clothes for $40 and under. As every betch knows, stores like Forever 21, H&M and even Urban Outfitters are filled with best kept secret pieces that can change an outfit from drab to fab, but betches like to stand out; to have clothes that not just any betch can have access to. The key to this is finding a low priced boutique in your area. The benefit of such a boutique is the price is always right and the volume they carry of each item is minimal. Sarah B and Petersen A are lucky enough to have the sister stores Sophie & Trey and 4th & Ocean in a near by town. The skirt and starfish cuff Sarah B is wearing are from Sophie & Trey. The starfish cuff is all over the internet ranging from $20-$100+, and guess what? -- Sarah B got hers for $15!

Betches put a lot of time, money and energy into their daily outfits; but money doesn't grow on trees, wahhh. Although money doesn't grow, it can stretch. In buying trendy pieces for less, such as Sarah B's Sophie & Trey maxi skirt or Petersen A's ombre cover up, we can make looks that cost less look beach chic. By complementing our looks with sustainable items by dbDesigns, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Tory Burch, betches can trick you into thinking that they just can't be jobless.

A Jobless Betches Bible says: "Spend more on classics, spend wisely on trends." Today, Sarah B spent wisely. So far we've annoyed you betches -- probably with jobs -- with posts about classics vs trends, and we thought we would kindly demonstrate a how to for trendy pieces. 

The skirt Sarah B is wearing is trendy. The bustier Sarah B is wearing is also trendy. These are things I'm sure you smart betches with jobs already know. So...It was acceptable for Sarah B to invest in this oh so trendy minty skirt from Forever 21, because it was about $15 at Forever 21. In owning this trendy, yet kindly priced fishtail skirt, she is not only about to fulfill her trendy desires, but do it without particularly hurting her wallet. Unlike the fishtail skirt Petersen A owns by BCBG (which is a classic black..blah blah), mint has very much been a season color for this Summer; meaning it WILL go out of style. However, when summer ends and the fall leaves start turning, Sarah B won't feel very guilty about retiring her $15 skirt. This is the very reason why stores like Forever 21 and H&M are perfect for trendy-seasonal pieces. They are often mimics of higher-end brands, but unlike those higher-end brands, they give one the opportunity to buy trendy clothes -- in the colors and styles of the season -- for a whole lot less. 

We don't want to turn this into a "how dare you invest in rip offs of the fashion Gods"... Jobless Betches have no such time for said things. What we are however saying is if you love a certain seasonal trend and are pinching pennies, don't restrain yourself from indulging in the style you love; life is short, buy the shoes.

Sometimes a Jobless Betch is in an aggressive mood and when that betch is in such a mood they end up dressing like Petersen A did in the park. You'll come to see a trend in a lot of Petersen A's looks...they feature black...and pointy. As we talked about in our previous post, black is classic -- it never will go out of style. However, this look is clearly styled to be more indie-trendy. By taking trendy -- lesser costing -- spiked BDG shorts with a large gold headpiece, and combining it with a classic belt, bodysuit, purse and gladiator sandals she's had since high school, Petersen A has created the typical Jobless Betch outfit. "Typical" in the sense of the formula, not the look.

Petersen A's fashion tip for today -- Choose your high-waisted shorts wisely. Color-wise, black or jean are always a multi-seasonal choice. How they fit is the more difficult aspect. For example, these shorts, at times, become a little bit too high-waisted and show off a little bit too much leg, if (if you know what I mean); not everyone is comfortable with this at all times. This betch even isn't; but slap on a betchy-tude and confidence takes over. Find high-waisted shorts that best fit your body type, slap on some confidence and take your betchy self out on the town.

Cropped pants and a-symmetrical skirts are common trendy pieces for this season, they can be seen in stores ranging from H&M to Bloomingdale's but what determines whether you buy a $10 trendy item versus a $100+ trendy item? The answer to the question is with another question: Is it a classic? The majority of colors come in and out of style season to season but black is a "color" that stays no matter the season, no matter the year. We will admit, these Jobless Betches are not immune to trends and often search for trendy pieces at budget prices (at stores like Forever21 and H&M). If trendy pieces can be found for less, then why did Petersen A buy a skirt from BCBG and why did Sarah B buy cropped pants from BCBG? Because they are a classic, black silk pieces, that no matter the trends, no matter the season...they will be timeless pieces. 

This is something the Jobless Betches will "preach" to you in our blog over and over again...outfits are made of trends and classics. Living on a budget does not particularly mean you can't build a closet out of just trends or just classics. Spend responsibly, identify what items are "classics" and worthy of "breaking the bank for" and identify what items are "trendy" and should be spent on with caution.

Today we went to Avondale, Florida. It was a rainy day and Petersen A doesn't like rainy days -- water combined with red hair stains shirts! So our time there was mostly spent looking at dbDesigns and wandering around small stores to avoid said rain.

As for what we wore...Colored jeans seemed to be perfect for our first fashion post. Betches love skinny-colored jeans. Why, you might ask? Think pop of color with the comfort of wearing pants - rainy days are great for pants. (Sarah B may disagree because hers were a bit of a downpour casualty, to say the least). The benefit of colored jeans -- versus printed jeans -- is that it makes the classic jean trendy with the benefit that they are not soo trendy that when they "go out of style" they can't still be worn. Investing in a pair of jeans that are colored may be a good idea for the long run, since summer will be ending soon and fall fashions will be coming our way, find a color that is more season-neutral (such as greens, blues or reds). Matching your colored jeans with an eyelet linen top is a way to tone down the look to be comfortable yet cute.
